Hello! How are you? I hope your hungry! I have a wonderful dish to share with you. This is my take on a great mexican dish. I used Swai fish (similar to tilapia) which is not the typical fish used for fish tacos. Swai fish is pretty cheap here in Philly and the filets are a nice size. This recipe is pretty easy and tasty. I got the white sauce recipe from Chef Mike of NS Catering. So try it out and tell me what you think!
Here’s what you need to make them:
- 1lb of Swai fish
- 1 tomato
- Shredded Lettuce
- Green Salsa (you can find this in the international section of your market, where they keep all the Goya stuff)
- Shredded cheese
- 1 Can of Black Beans
- White Sauce (Recipe to follow)
- 1 cup of cooked rice
- 2-3 Tbs Olive Oil
- Taco Tortillas
White Sauce
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 tsp cup cumin
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- 1/2 tbs dill ( I used dill paste, I used one squirt of it, this is found right next to the fresh dill)
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
Mix all the ingredients together for the white sauce with a whisk. Now I gave measurements for the spices, but to be honest I used about two-three shakes of each spice. I didn’t really measure. Once everything is mixed well together cover it and refrigerate it.
Take your Swai fish and chop it up and then season the fish. I used Mrs. Dash Fiesta Lime seasoning. I like Mrs. Dash seasonings because they have little or no sodium. Heat up a skillet with olive oil. Spread the olive oil all around the pan, the oil will prevent the fish from sticking. Once your pan is heated throw in your fish and sautéed it. Cook until it is completely done and fish turns white. The fish will cook pretty fast. Cover fish and set aside.
Heat the black beans in a small sauce pan. I used garlic powder, salt and coarse black pepper to season my beans. It gives them good flavor.
Now its time to assemble the tacos! Pile everything in the taco shells in no particular order (except the beans). Don’t forget to put the white sauce on top and the green salsa. Then in a bowl layer rice with black beans on top and cheese on top of the beans.
And Voila, There you have it Fish Tacos with Black beans and rice! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I’ve bee looking for the perfect sauce, and this was it! Thanks!
